Of those players who voted on the AC post (which was posted and open at the start of this month and was closed yesterday), we are changing the AC requirements starting January 1st, 2020, for that AC period and onward.

This means you need two threads to pass AC now. With flexible backtagging options! As stated in the initial post outlining the options, what we called option two there (which is this one we're implementing) means that backtagged threads can be used for AC while also ensuring that backtagged threads have a better shot at being either played to completion or getting more than a couple tags in before a new AC period comes around.

You may use threads started as late within the last two months IF you have four timestamped comments in each month for however old the thread start is. That's an average of one tag a week at minimum from your character in a thread in backtagged threads. For example, let's look at what January AC might look like for me as a player doing my AC for Sara ([personal profile] canaria) —

I can use a thread started as late as November as long as I have four timestamped comments from [personal profile] canaria dated in November AND four timestamped comments from [personal profile] canaria dated in December.

If I use a thread that was started in December, I need four December-dated timestamped comments from [personal profile] canaria.

If I use a thread that was started in January, I just need more than one January-dated timestamped comment from [personal profile] canaria in it.

Any combination of the above is acceptable, so long as two threads that meet any of those criteria are presented for AC.

And some final points...

✔ AC will still be open all month long, and these AC changes will be reflected when January's AC post goes up tomorrow, as well as our FAQ and Rules pages. Taking an AC 'save' will still be an option for those who don't make AC one month, but I'm still working out what a fair save requirement will be under this system, since the 'five comment thread' of the last system doesn't really fit with this one. I will announce that when I have an answer, which will be long before anyone has to ask for a January AC save.

✔ As an aside, all hiatuses properly announced on the hiatus page are AC check-in exempt as well. Indefinite and consecutive hiatuses still won't be allowed, but AC check-in stress over hiatuses should be pretty well over and done with now. AC exemption does not count if you only post your hiatus to plurk or the OOC comm; it has to be on the hiatus and drops page since that's the only page I'll be checking when I check AC.

Hello, players! A bit of a personal announcement this time, but since the mod team is a grand total of one, this is one of those times where it has to be said so you know what's up since mod-work will be impacted: I will be 100% out of commission for the next two/three-ish (give or take some) days starting tomorrow. I'm having a surgery done at early-ass-o'clock tomorrow morning that's not too much more major than a wisdom tooth extraction, but I'm definitely gonna be Out Of It for at least couple days following.

I will, however, prioritize mod-work over other things (aka tags) as my state allows after that, because I don't want to leave you all hanging too long if anything needing a mod response or action comes in during that time.

I'm going to spend this afternoon updating the metaplot calendar, and... honestly, probably posting prominence info since the next one starts on Wednesday. ICly, it won't start early and will still remain on schedule, but I will have the information up for you early.

Hi, players! For a small mod-run event/thing coming up, characters will be receiving one item from their home worlds or if they're an AU/CRAU, then they can make a request for something from their AU/CRAU worlds. Not both — AU/CRAU characters can choose where the item comes from, but in the interest of fairness, they can't pick one from each.

A few things of note:

▶ No one is forced to participate; you don't have to make a request if you don't want to.

▶ Fill out the form request for an item; this is so I have a list of who wants what and to make sure it's not too game-breaking. If your item is approved, you will get a comment reply saying so. If it isn't, I'll let you know that too, and you can certainly think of something else.

▶ Players have until the OOC date of AUGUST 15th, 2019 to make a request.

▶ Characters will NOT receive their approved items immediately. More on dates of the 'when' later.

▶ These are OOC requests, not IC ones. Meaning, you pick the item but your character doesn't ICly know about it yet, nor are you to assume has a request for the item been handwaved.

▶ The items can be magical/supernatural in nature, but please explain fully how they are. That is because these items may have to be nerfed some.

▶ The items are to be reasonably sized in nature. AKA: Don't ask for a Death Star.

▶ These requests are open to Chosen characters only. No NPCs/Magistrates.

▶ If you play more than one character, you may make one request per character.

▶ Comments are screened; any questions may be asked in the comments.

JULY AC IS OPEN | ANNOUNCEMENT REGARDING ACTIVITY CHECK CHANGES!

AC will be soon transitioning to a system where it will be open ALL MONTH, meaning you can submit your AC in the AC post as soon as you make it in that month. You will have from the first day of the month until the last day of the month to submit it, and if you don't, you're swept. Same rules as always, the only thing that changes is how long AC is open.

Consider this the post for any AC valid for JULY. This post will remain open until JULY 31st 11:59 PM Eastern USA time.

A post covering August AC will go up on the first of the month and remain open until August 31st 11:59 PM Eastern USA time. When that post goes up, a link will be added to the OOC comm sidebar for the AC tag so that you can always click it and find the latest AC post. The usual rules will also be copy-pasted in that post.

Hi, players! Now that June's app round has concluded and apps will start to be reviewed, I'm coming at you with more tweaks, which I hope aren't too confusing and/or discouraging. I appreciate everyone's patience with me slowly but surely adjusting the administrative processes of the game to fit one mod now at the helm of this place. You're all awesome. ♥

A bit of good news is that this change SHOULD be the last that has more of an impact on what you all see on your end (it's about when apps and reserves open and close). This change switches them out every month as you'll see in the below charts, and this will allow for faster processing of both, since it will not divide modly attention between both at the same time for too much longer. These are effective immediately and these tables have been placed on their respective pages.

RESERVE INFORMATION
WHEN ARE RESERVES OPEN?
WHEN ARE RESERVES CLOSED?
February — All month
April — All month
June — All month
August — All month
October — All month
December — All month
January — All month
March — All month
May — All month
July — All month
September — All month
November — All month

APPLICATION INFORMATION
WHEN ARE APPLICATIONS OPEN?
WHEN ARE APPLICATIONS CLOSED?
January — 1st-5th
March — 1st-5th
May — 1st-5th
July — 1st-5th
September — 1st-5th
November — 1st-5th
February — All month
April — All month
June — All month
August — All month
October — All month
December — All month

In other words:
If reserves are open that month, applications are closed that same month.
If applications are open that month, reserves are closed that same month.
Which, yes, does mean that reserves will no longer be accepted during a current app round.
Any applications or reserves submitted during their closed periods will not be considered and are invalid.

Reserves are still required to apply and all that jazz; as always, check the FAQ and/or rules if you need reminders or want to check up on them — especially since a few of them have been recently tweaked for a more streamlined approach as well. If anyone has any questions, comments, concerns, or finds some error in the FAQ or rules page that I've missed after staring at and editing those pages for a while over the past few weeks, feel free to give a shout in the mod contact page and I will respond to you ASAP.

Aloha players, I'm back with more updates! These are a couple of minor(ish) changes that are going to be put into a trial period in order to see if they make our game operate more smoothly from a mostly behind the scenes standpoint.

So, to test that out, these below listed changes will run until the end of July 2019. If they do not work, or are abused, then everything will go back to the way it was and we can call the trial run an epic fail. We're doin' an RP science here, fam.

If any players have any serious concerns, please feel free to bring them to the mod contact page or the mod email.

APPLICATIONS ⇒ The rule about how soon you can app a new character after a drop of one in your list or a hiatus is going to be slightly shuffled for this trial period. Right now, you technically can't app a new character if you've taken a hiatus, save, or dropped one or more characters from your roster within the past one/two months of being in good AC standing (if you drop all characters, there is no waiting period because you are not considered a current player). Admittedly, this has been pretty lax in practice over that past while, so I want to see how we do if we just ... scrub it off the books until July. As always, patterns of hiatusing/dropping/not being 'around' as a player, to skirt the app rule will be watched for.

CANON CHANGES ⇒ Canon updating gets its very own dedicated page. In the interest of uniformity and fairness, the rule for canon updating -- no matter what media your character is from (a comic/webcomic, TV series, film, so on and so forth) -- is now the same all across the board instead of being case-by-case depending on the medium. Canon updates cannot be requested until the new desired canon point has been out for a month at minimum, and you must still warn for spoilers in comments and entries for another month after your character is back in play at the new canon point. Also, please provide a chance for other players to opt out of spoilers should they want more than two months warning. We're all here to have fun, not spoil fun.

Original characters still need to submit canon update requests, but so long as the character in question isn't an OC from an established canon, then the spoiler warnings are obviously less necessary. As in: If you update your Star Wars-verse OC to episode nine, then you're still subject to spoiler tag rules ... but if your OC is from your non-published work of fiction, then you're obviously not going to spoil anyone since it's not a published work.

Hello, players! Tessa here with some modly-type announcements and updates.

This is a somewhat transitional period in the game's modship, as our lovely Arma announced that she has hung up her mod-hat after several years doing a kick-ass job (send all heart shaped confetti and appreciation her way), so please excuse any slight bumps we may roll over as I get settled in solo mod capacity after co-modding for a year. I've assured Arma in private -- and now you all in public -- that if I find I need an extra hand down the road, I will ask for it and not let this game suffer. If anyone has any questions, comments, or complaints, the mod contact page always has been and always will be open.

On the note of mod contact: Private plurks and pings to the mod plurk are, technically, open, but responses will very likely be faster if sent via email or to the mod contact page.

Our TAKEN LIST has been updated with a new code that (I hope) is still easily manageable for our players. Please take a look, regardless if you're a new or old player, to ensure that I did not leave off your character when I was switching things over. If I did, just fill out the form on the taken list and I will rectify that.

The PLAYER CONTACT page has also been updated with our new players and new characters, but again — every player please take a look anyway to ensure that all of your information is correct. Again, if it isn't, please fill out the form and I will update that as well.

And now back to your regularly scheduled RP shenanigans,
— Tessa

Hello Players -

Unfortunately, our last post lacked some finer points and details that you as a player base need to be aware of. Last we talked, Momo was stepping down and we asked if anyone wanted to step into her place and take over helping us really write and put out the setting and it's subtle changes. While we got a few deeply appreciated offers of side help, it's a painful fact of life that everyone involved has their own stuff and schedules to take care of, and there's no one to take over that position so freely.

We have loved modding CoS and I am personally pained at the idea of it closing but it's only fair that it be put to you for input before any decisions are made.

Let me clarify: Closing is our very last option and choice. While Aria and I don't have the time to keep up with a full game, we would like to convert CoS into a sandbox game with a loose structure, minimal AC and month long Prominence influences. With this, we would like to expand the world out a little from the City that we've all come to love. While this would demand more Player v Player plots instead of Player v Environment over the month, there would be plenty to do once the barrier is broken, starting with a war with the outside realm.

The City has been home to many stories and I think, with a little tweaking, could house many new ones. But this is now a community and we want to know what you guys think. Like it? Rather we close? Let's decide what we'd collectively like to do with this place in 2018!

Hello, Sinners!

We apologise for the delay in getting this notice up, but it's been a busy week for all of us. We just have a couple of minor things to inform you, our lovely player base, of:

Applications
We're starting an app cycle! No longer will applications be accepted any time throughout the month. Instead, we will be accepting all applications during the first week of the month. We will do our best to get all of the applications submitted to us processed by the 14th of each month, with any bits of clarification and any revisions processed within a week of players having submitted them. This is to keep on top of applications a little bit more. Reserves will always be open, and will reset at the end of each submission cycle.

As always, though, we ask for patience: we all live in different timezones, and slotting out that time isn't always the easiest. We do our best.

State of the City
We've added a couple of minor sections to the State for ease of players, including a bit of crime. This is probably mostly relevant to the police characters, who will be working on cases all the time, but may also benefit the other players if they choose to have their character get involved with something!

Additionally, we now have a plot suggestion post, in case there's some kind of idea you want to see implemented in the game! We're completely open to ideas, and would love to hear what sort of things you'd want to have. These can be player plots that players run, ranging from personal things to wide-scale events that effect the entire City, or just ideas for the mods to play with in the future.

Contact
For ease of getting in touch with the moderators, we ask that all players wanting to do so either PM the mod journal or ping the mod plurk (whether in a plurk or a private plurk). This means that there's a chance for all of us to see it and answer your questions.

That's everything for now! We thank you all for your continued interest in the game, and hope that we can make changes that benefit everyone.

Mid-way through the week, shortly after the change in City influence, it becomes more and more apparent that there’s something just a touch off about things now. It’s perhaps not a major change to some, but to others, there is a definite change. In fact, as things get a little drier, it becomes readily obvious that something about the City has changed rather permanently.

Anyone who resides along the edges of the Coliseum district, just south of the Coliseum proper, or along the edges of the Red Lantern District and Shantytown, will realise that there are a few puddles that haven’t disappeared with the rest. In fact, it does appear that there’s a bit of a river running right through the City, heading downwards towards the ocean in the south. The Magistrates are working towards building bridges, however; they might be small, but they certainly do the trick. At least citizens will still be able to get over to that side of things.

Of course, with the presence of a river comes a new set of problems.

And on another note, the Magistrates ask that people do not attempt to swim in the river.

Hello, Sinners! Your mod team here with a few big announcements!

First of all: Applications and reserves are now open again! Please note that there have been some changes to the process and to our expectations of what's required in an app, so please please please read through everything again to make sure you know what's been updated!

02.: There have been major changes to the rules and FAQ, so all players are expected to reacquaint themselves with things! You can easily find everything from any of the profile pages of the game, or directly on this journal, where there is now a handy directory!

03.: We ask that all players fill out their residence information! This is a very handy way of figuring out where all characters are located. Some have been updated already, but take a look and let us know if any changes need to be made.

04.: There is now a handy map to be found on both the housing and World Information pages, hand-drawn by your friendly neighbourhood Momo!

05.: For any players new or old who wanted to test out a character here at City of Sin, there is a test drive meme! We will likely have these at semi-regular intervals!

06.: We have a new addition to the mod team! Everyone, please thank Aria for stepping up as a helper mod!

As a final note, we do ask that everyone read through all the pages here at our lovely game, as everything has been updated. Additionally, please thank Momo for taking the time to make sure all the information is up to date and reflects the game as it is now, and Aria, Lily, and Susan for having helped out with the process!

Now back to your regularly scheduled gaming!

Hey there, people! Here we are, in the City of Sin. Please mind the construction zones around the place while things get settled, like the City itself the structures are changing and evolving.

We wanted to make note of a few quick things as we get started.

Thing 1: We are on a 3:1 day ratio. This will hopefully keep things nice and manageable and give people the opportunity to get involved in things even when life strikes.

Thing 2: Not everything in the City is like it was before. I highly encourage people to read the FAQ and the World Info. Languages aren't auto-translated except around the Tower! Non-standardized network interface devices! New death system! Have fun waking up in your new Sin-assigned housing!

Thing 3: Don't forget the NPC contact page for getting in touch with the Magistrates, or any other NPC-related request!

Most of all, we're just so happy to have you here, doing this! We're really excited for this going forward, and we hope you are too. Please don't hesitate to get in touch with questions, planning, issues, requests...all the things!
