Starting on mid-day of August 31st until September 6th (Feb 14th - March 5th), something strange is afoot. Characters will find themselves 'twitterpated', foolishly under the grips of what seem to be Love. Be this an intense affection, a powerful passion, or a friendly appreciation, it's whole-hearted. This event will take the place of Prominence for this IC week, so it will be the only thing to struggle with.
What happened?
Some idiot (Cassidy) threw an extremely powerful love potion into the bay. As a result, the potion's magic is seeping into the City's water supply. Any character who comes in contact with the tainted water may be affected.
'May' be affected?
Yup. This is a totally opt-in player plot. There will only be trace amounts of the potion in some of the City's water, so it'll be easy to say that any one person dodged the proverbial bullet.
So about these effects...
There are three potential effects from being hit with the potion. Feel free to pick one or more based on what you find most interesting and fun.
LUST: When the spell's effect hits your character, they might decide that moment that they want the person they're with, or the person they're thinking about. They really want them. As many times as possible, until the effects fade.
DEVOTION: We are talking about a love spell, here, and there's more to love than sex. Maybe when your character is affected, they find themselves with a different sort of feeling for the person they're with or thinking about. The kind of feeling that says, "You mean the world to me. I'd do anything for you. I'd die for you." And they'll definitely want to let them know, in their own words or ways.
COMFORT: No matter how your character felt about the other before, they now see them as a tremendous source of comfort. They'll want to be with the other character as much as possible, and time spent apart will cause distress. Unlike the lust effect, they won't necessarily want to get physical, just be near the other character for as long as they can.
Can I have the effect(s) apply to multiple characters?
Why not? If your character happens to be with or thinking about a group of people at the time, the spell might not be so picky. They may also experience lust for one person, devotion for another, etc.
How long will it last?
The spell is incredibly powerful in its pure form, but it's been so diluted that it won't last forever. It may not even last the week. You can choose to have the effects last anywhere from one to seven days.
What do the characters know about this?
Basically nothing. Cassidy will have no idea that his actions precipitated this, and since the spell could be transferred from any sort of contact with water, it'll be hard for anyone to narrow down. That said, if someone did think to test the water for magic, they wouldn't be prevented from discovering it. But even if no one does, the effects will eventually fade on their own. In that case, it'll have just been another weird week in the City.
