PLOTTING POST } Cthulhu And Friends

Happy almost (IC) Halloween, players!

Courtesy of these shenanigans are thanks to Team Connor, for being bold, brave, and accidentally poking at things under the sea. Here’s a follow up post by The High Priestess on the matter.

Starting late on the IC date of NOVEMBER 1st and lasting until the early hours of NOVEMBER 3rd (be sure to check the game calendar for corresponding OOC dates), the City will be, um, “treated” to a presence breaking out of the ocean depths -- Cthulhu is going to come say hi to the Chosen -- and wreaking havoc on the City with some of its friends.

These friends will not be nearly as big as Cthulhu, nor quite as formidable, but will resemble versions of things found in the deep sea -- gnarly teeth, worm-like bodies, bioluminescent attachments, et cetera. Players may be as free as they want in their imaginations of these minions, but, as always: if you have any questions, please ask in the mod question thread of this entry.

I will be posting an event log for this when the event starts, so please wait for that to go up before doing any IC threading -- this is your plotting post, for all your plans, questions, and getting ducks in rows.

OTHER BITS OF INFORMATION:
➤ Players on hiatus or who want to opt out of this event can have their characters take relative shelter on one of the other planets, or the Magistrates left will be securing some underground shelters for natives and Chosen who don’t want to or can’t deliver asskickings to cosmic gods.

➤ Cthulhu will do most of its damage mentally (see below point), but also because of its sheer size (yes, we're using the scale size in the linked picture of it above wHOOPS), will also fuck up some structures. Cthulhu's minions, however, will be doing most of the physical damage, especially if they get a person surrounded and overwhelmed.

➤ Prolonged contact or direct near presence with Cthulhu induces insanity. You won't go from 0 to 100 in a half-second, but it'll definitely be a steady medium-to-slow climb, depending on one's mental fortitude. The only people who are 100% immune to the insanity effects are Magistrates, however.

➤ By November 3rd (IC date), the combined efforts to beat back Cthulhu And Friends will have them driven back to the sea to hopefully stay there this time.

➤ If you have plans to kill your character off during this event, run it by the plot post before the event post goes up so we can keep a headcount.

The insanity is related to the proximity or view of Cthulu, right? And he'll mostly be at the coast? So if you were to get away from the coast and not look you'll be okay?

Yes — it's a proximity and/or view thing. It'll be venturing away from the coast once or twice, but yes, overall most of it's time will be spent near the coast since that its "home base".

The event isn't going to follow Lovecraft's works exactly, for obvious reasons, but Wikipedia has information on The Call of Cthulhu short story itself, and HP Lovecraft's overall Cthulhu Mythos.

Skye | tidepod ❱ will be screaming internally and externally and is gonna try to fight the smaller minions. She's from so early in canon that she's not only still going by Skye and doesn't have her inhuman powers, but hasn't seen even a quarter of the shit that gets thrown her way. It might have helped to know about Hive by now, but, ah.

Wanda | divaricate ❱ is losing her god damned mind, courtesy of the extra influence of the alien shit in her now thanks to planet fuckery. Because it's uhhhhh of similar origin whoopsie. So, anyone who wants to try to corral and deal with her crazy ass too, come plot with this.

Sara | canaria ❱ since she has some powers from her CRAU, is mmmostly going to try launching explosives or whatever else she can into the water to maybe have a shot at fucking up its lair. Spoilers: It won't really work, but help a sista out?

Ronen's Guys

Eliot (thegreatestproject) is going to do what is now routine for him in these sorts of crises: strengthen Le Rideau Rogue's defenses and make the place into as safe a haven as he can. He'll basically be there, if anyone's looking.

Cassidy (riotousjunkie) will have been dozing down by the docks when Cthulhu surfaces, so he's going a little brain-crazy. He might get violent if provoked (let's plot this in advance if you're interested, please). Overall he's going to be acting extra twitchy and making less sense than usual.

Claire

Claire is going to be commandeering the police station because of its tactical position, room for civilians, weapons and lockdown ability. Sylar is gonna let her. She and Elliot will be monitoring CCTV, keeping an eye out and trying to help guide those out there wanting to be heroes to where civilians need help. She'll also be venturing out herself to help people and bring them back. I want her to have a couple Big Damn Hero moments so if you want a timely rescue or assist let me know!

If Cthulu starts getting too close to the hospital Claire's gonna want to mount a mission to get people out of there and back to the station. But we'll see what happens.

I will put up a catch-all network post when it's time so we can play stuff out, or just poke me and we can assume Claire's in contact with your character during this!

Thea will be fighting and shooting, anyone want to offer a rooftop? She can also offer cover fire and general aid/saves. She may have a small moment of losing it but can be pulled from the brink just as fast.

Tulip will also be fighting and using whatever she gets her hands on as weapons. She can and will fight dirty.

Both can be hurt, no death.

Lily's Crew

John Wick | withafnpencil will be on the front lines without meaning to be. One can catch him taking down minions like the badass hitman he is. He'll be making his way around the City so if he's in your vicinity and you'd like something, we can make it happen.

Natasha Romanoff | iwasrussian can be found fighting with intent to get down to the coast to try and take down the Big One. I still haven't totally decided if I plan to screw with Nat's mind (hence her "intent"). She's got her Widow's Bite and other weapon's and will be doing what she does best.

Elliot Alderson | imtalkingtoyou is going to be mostly at the police station, helping Claire out with getting City folk to safety and running CCTV to find people who might be trapped. He'll also be doubling up his reconnaissance with locating the server room (hey, lbr, chaos has a way of getting people to look the other way, amirite?) for his own "project".

He will also have his split personality, Mr. Robot, taking over so chances are if "Elliot" leaves the station, it's because his alter ego has taken over. Mr Robot is everything Elliot isn't, so anyone who's met him so far will notice a difference in confidence and speech.

SO. This isn't the first tentacled beastie that Cassandra has faced. She is going to be reminded STRONGLY of Rome and of battling Oceanus and as such she will absolutely be out there doing what she can to fight Cthulhu and Friends. Bow and arrows and blades and her goddess-given powers. Every weapon at her disposal.

HOWEVER.... she also kind of got mauled not that long ago, so she is not going to be at 100% strength. Not that that will stop her. She's far too fucking stubborn for that. So she's leaping into the fray

She will mostly be on the ground battling the pocket!Cthulhus and probably finding a good, really fucking high vantage point to take some pot shots at full-sized!Cthulhu. Try and shoot him in the eye or some shit. Not sure if she'll be close enough to take some sanity effects, and if she does, what they'll be yet. (Possibly hallucinations of the Briarwoods. Because I'm mean.)

So here's the thing - Devi's got a parasite in her head that can alter reality around her, in most any way that Sickness wants to and Devi keeps the little beast at bay in regular times. But Cthulu is not regular times and Devi's tenuious hold on her own insanity and moral flaws will eventually stop working.

Devi will be walking the streets of the city, fighting or fucking with anything that's unlucky enough to cross her and over a few hours, Sickness will be manifesting itself into reality. WHO WANTS TO MEET DEVI'S SECRET?

She will not be in any final fight and she'll be on her own side, so be warned.

Angel has already had quite the month, but she will here to run support to anyone that needs it. Mostly she will be fighting monsters for the first part as back up so if you want some punchy times let me know.

After the madness gets her - she will be weirdly having a great time. Insanity is a very comfortable place for her and she will be pulling some Ophelia shit. Floating around giving affection and telling you how pointless your life is and can she marrow your bones and tell you how beautiful your heart sounds. Oh yeah, wait hang on, plz fill out the lil permission thingy if you'd like too.
