Something Romantic This Way Comes

Event: Something Romantic This Way Comes

A few days before Valentine’s Day, an invitation goes out to everyone in the City, citizen and Chosen alike. This establishment doesn’t discriminate, after all: some of those Chosen are as regular customers as the citizens are. In fact, the establishment in question is a very nice apothecary and pharmacy, home to innumerable herbs and potions ingredients, crystals, other miscellaneous occult knickknacks, and general cures for what ails you.

For the holiday, such as it is, it appears that they’ve set up a small party to celebrate, and everyone is invited to join in. There’s said to be drink and music aplenty (with a bit of food floating around, too). Everyone loves a party, after all, and this one is largely for publicity. Their popularity has been waning of late.

One employee of the store, however, doesn’t see any of this as a good thing. He’s a little disgruntled, you see, and once he found out about the event going on, he takes it upon himself to create a handful of potions. These potions are set up around the party as filled chocolates, advertised as ‘something to share with your sweet’ and toted as a very hot ticket item for the evening.

Each of the chocolates looks a little bit different, with small signs next to them to advertise a potential effect. The trick here is that the chocolates actually seem to do the opposite of what’s advertised (with, of course, the added bonus of potentially getting…unpretty, shall we say. Think aggression.):

Starry-Eyed: Though advertised as the makings of a starry-eyed romance, this chocolate takes things a little bit further than that. For those who ingest this chocolate, the subject of their ‘affections’ will be absolutely perfect. No faults. None. They are flawless. More than that, though, they ought to be treated like royalty, and that means they won’t be able to do anything for themselves. Those who have this chocolate will find themselves waiting on their subject hand and foot, and quite happily too.

Doting: Though advertised as creating a doting lover (or something like it, anyway), those who enjoy this chocolate will end up feeling far from. Instead, they couldn’t care less. The more the subject tries to get their attention, the less the be-chocolated character will care. In fact, the subject is perhaps the most boring person on the planet. That poor person. What did they do to deserve this?

Extravagant: Though advertised as creating an extravagant, whirlwind romance, this chocolate will do something a little less positive. Even summer flings seem better than this. This, after all, is something closer to Stockholm Syndrome: characters will find themselves absolutely enamoured with their subject, brushing any and all faults under the rug. More than that, they’ll even be willing to defend them to the ends of the earth. For better or worse.

Fanciful: Though advertised as the makings of a fanciful relationship, this chocolate causes one of the least positive effects of them all: disgust. The subject might be the most delightful person under most circumstances, but for some reason, the character eating the chocolate can’t help but find them just revolting. Doesn’t even matter what it is, it’s revolting.

Glamourous: (being realistic about a relationship) Though advertised as the elegant, glamourous sort of romance of a well-bred so-and-so, those who enjoy this chocolate will find that their mindset is shifting subtly. Instead of thinking fondly, they’ll think logically, even if that means realising the various flaws in the subject or why a relationship shouldn’t possibly work. Maybe it makes them a bit of a downer, but…oh well.

After being ingested, the effect will take hold in response to the first character seen afterward. Characters may partake in as many (or as few!) chocolates as they’d like. The chocolates will run their full course after twelve hours, and up to 24 hours if a few of the same kind are ingested.

As for anyone not interested? Well, have fun at the party anyway!

This is a mod-driven event and players are not obligated to participate in it. The party will take place from June 27 - 29, OOCly, or on February 14 in game time. There will be a log posted.

FAQ
    - Can I do anything I want with the chocolate effects?
Within reason, yes. Feel free to follow the guidelines and take them in your own direction, or have it ramp up to eleven! If there are further questions on what exactly is allowed in specific circumstances, feel free to ask below.

    - So I don't need to participate at all? What if my character wants to eat chocolate too?
There will still be other chocolates for them to nibble on with no effect whatsoever, don't worry.

Have a question that isn’t answered here? Feel free to ask us below! Additionally, please use this as a plotting post!
