+1 Lost 1940s Sniper
Hello there! Introductions: This is Bucky; he's an incredible flirt, who's completely confused about pretty much everything, because this isn't 1944, is it? He has all his memories, all his limbs, and none of the murderous mental conditioning or guilty angst his future-counterpart possesses. Not to say he's always cheerful - he was tortured and endured an experimental drug regimen which he's still not entirely clear on the implications... But really, he's much happier than the Winter Soldier. He's also not at all Politically Correct, and while he doesn't intend to be... He's probably gonna be a little bit racist and chauvinistic. (Seriously, I apologize SO HARD in advance. He doesn't know any better. Please teach him!) If you're not familiar with his canon, or wanna see how I've fleshed it out (from the about 40 minutes of him as a fleshed-out character in Captain America and Winter Soldier), you can check out his VERY long history from my app here. And please, feel free to ask me any questions about him, I adore Bucky and will...probably give you a dissertation on him. >.>
Other introduction: I'm Katie, I'm not brand new to RPing, but I am completely new to playing in any sort of community/game setting. But I loved the whole idea and setting for this game, and really wanted to drag 40's Bucky into the craziness. (Also, Amy enabled me into it and held my hand while I freaked out multiple times, so all blame/praise should really go to her.) I can pretty much always be reached on Plurk at
eirian84, unless I'm sleeping. I'm CST, but work nights part-time, so basically just pretend I live in Australia. I generally answer tags in the evening/wee hours of the morning when I wake up, or in the morning if I've had to work. You can also PM this journal if you've got any sorts of ideas for plots and/or shenanigans Bucky could get into. I'm looking forward to getting to know everybody, and meeting some really great and interesting characters!

Welcome to the game, Katie. I'm Wizera, and I believe you already met this feisty little flirt.

...Diana will definitely flirt with him. I mean, who can resist that face?
no subject
Nobody. Nobody can resist that face. After they started interacting, I totally looked up all of Diana's information - WOW. AWESOME and amazing, I love it.
no subject
But yes. I so look forward to tagging with you!

YES. It NEEDS to be legit. And I'm just gonna throw this out there, because as soon as Eliot responded on the TDM, I was like "...Bucky. BUCKY. You should hit that." He already has a reputation for chasing skirts... but he's only opposed to men because of how he was raised (it's not even really internalized homophobia, it's just...he just always 'knew'/was told he'd find a girl, settle down, have kids, yada yada.) But once he got to know Eliot a little more, he'd probably be totally down for a friends-with-benefits thing. *nods*
...sorry, my enthusiasm got away from me. Just─ I loved their interactions on the TDM, it was all great.
And I've been up too long. That will always be my excuse.no subject

Quick question: since Eliot's canon is generally assumed to be our world with extra magic, and they make references to other pop culture, would you be comfortable with a little internal-monologue fourth-walling? Eliot isn't exactly a comics nerd, but Bucky mentioned "Captain America" in his IC post, and that's a pretty recognizable character these days. I don't plan on puncturing the fourth wall in any big way, honestly it's pretty much for my own amusement.

I'm totally looking forward to it>.> What? I think Wanda and Bucky will get along pretty well (after the requisite hitting on her - it's basically a reflex for him, at this point, haha).no subject
no subject
and hahaha oh my god yes please throw her off by hitting on her it'll be hilarious.

I'm Momo, and I play Draco Malfoy and Lydia Martin over here. Both of them have quite a bit of game experience under their belts, and both of them look forward to meeting yours!
Lydia in particular. She's sort of dating Steve. That'll be a good conversation to have, probably.
no subject
Adding you on plurk now, and I look forward to playing with you!
no subject
And yay! I'm excited for Bucky to start meeting/interacting with everybody. And Lydia... whoo-boy. Bucky will... probably hit on her first time he sees her (he always does with girls, it's a reflex by this point, haha!). And then he'll feel bad for hitting on Steve's (sort of) girl. It'll be great.
no subject
And I'd also be happy to help you with anything you need, so no fretting.
Eeee, yay! Yes, definitely hit on her. She likes that. Even if she's confused because Steve totally told her he loves her, and she's flustered and fussy because Feelings are Hard. It'll be so great.
no subject
Also, I'm EST but I exist on a second-shift schedule, so yay for fellow messed-up-hours-folks! :D

I only have one character in the game. Bucky met her on the TDM. Her name is Kate Cordello. She is a mutant of the X-Men variety but she was never actually an X-Men. SHe worked at X-Corporation. She has a healing factor and can let people borrow it. Kate's going to open a bakery, Flour Power but hasn't quite gotten their yet. She'd better buck up and get to it. :D :D :D
I'm sorry. I'll try to keep the horrible puns to a minimum. (No, I won't.)
I look forward to seeing Bucky around.
no subject
Feelings are very hard. Bucky tries to ignore them a lot. (He is very, very unsuccessful.)
no subject
Yay, someone else who might be around when I'm actually awake! Lol
no subject
And, yes. Reasons. Reasons are good, we like reasons!
no subject
Bucky thinks of himself as straight (but with some vague curiosity). I am going to totally disabuse him of that notion, very quickly.
no subject
Puns are awesome. At one point I described Bucky in CoS as "fresh off the train" and then was like "....too soon?"
And that is the BEST name for a bakery. I love it. (Bucky's side-eyeing it, but secretly he loves it too. Because he's a huge goober at heart.)
no subject
Muahahaha. Oh yes. REASONS. Come drink with Rhys, Bucky. :D He will be very happy to answer all your questions, and possibly provide thorough demonstrations.
no subject
Drinking will definitely help him, lower those internal expectations. XD He's from the 40s - he knows what goes on (canonically, he lived/grew up in one of the queerest Brooklyn neighborhoods, which is fantastic), and he's not opposed to the idea... But that's just not what 'respectable' people did, lifestyle-wise. He needs to be taught differently. (It'll help that he's now in a place with no family obligations, and no judging.)
no subject
Rhys grew up having a ton of struggles with being bi, due to a religious household, so he's pretty open about his preferences, but he's also really respectful of other peoples' boundaries. I can see some really good talks in their future no matter which way it goes, so there will definitely have to be beers and commiserating over terrible decor.
(Also, is it awful that I'm almost kind of thinking about an AU!war medic Rhys, now? >.> )
no subject
Bucky grew up in a big, Italian Catholic family, so lots of expectations (the Catholic thing only took in certain areas), but yes, I very much look forward to many discussions! And probably lots of drinking, tbh.
(.....no? Yes? Maybe? >.>)
no subject
Rhys kind of got the triple threat, when it came to family. He was born to a very strict, middle-class, "Good, Upstanding" family, but he was the product of an affair, and then he had the nerve to grow up to be both queer and pagan. So when he got kicked out of the house, he just said "Screw it, I'm going to do what makes me happy". A lot of trouble came out of it, but it also made him one of the most accepting, easygoing people ever when it comes to dealing with people of all different kinds. He knows what it's like to be labelled and rejected, and he never wants to make someone else feel that way. So yes. Definitely drinking. :D
(I am surrounded by terrible, terrible enablers. >.> But we shall see...)

I think eventually, if Bucky had come back from the war...people might attribute his continued bachelorhood to shellshock or something similar, but others would probably start to whisper about him (especially with how close he's always been with Steve). I'm still learning his character, but discussing it recently with a friend, I realized while he does like "having fun" with girls, he actually finds girls who are 'easy' to be a turn off, long-term. If they're willing to sleep with him, who else have they given it up for, and how likely are they to be able to settle down with him? He's all for casual hook-ups, but he's rarely gone on more than a few dates with the same gal. Since he's more straight-bi, he really just considers it 'curiosity', since he's never tried it - and he's never tried it because, as the oldest sibling, he's got Responsibilities, both of taking care of his siblings, and being a good role model and good Oldest Son.
I can just see them starting off casually drinking and discussing things, and before anyone realizes, they're in to a second bottle, and talking about things they (or Bucky at least) would never consider saying otherwise. (Ooh...Gonna have to ponder how much Bucky can drink before getting drunk, with the faux-serum...) >.>
(I feel you. It doesn't help that I'm horribly easy to enable, but people keep telling me I should do this-or-that, and I do. >.>)

He makes good life choices. He and Lydia will be Best Friends. It is spoken.
no subject
That all makes perfect sense for Bucky, and that's an interesting flip to Rhys. :) Rhys has had several relationships with women, and he enjoys their company, but they don't tend to work out in the long-term for him. He seems to have a stronger bond with men when it comes to actually making something last, but he still hasn't really figured it out yet. There's definitely something there that doesn't quite match up, when it comes to emotional needs and just physical enjoyment, that he's still trying to make sense of, and this is a guy that's pretty comfortable with his sexuality- just not relationships, just yet. (Attachment issues)
no subject
Aww, Rhys! I think Bucky is kind of a relationship-guy - he wants a steady relationship, he's just never been able to find it with anyone yet. The closest he's ever gotten is his friendship with Steve (which is just friendship, my take on it is they're like brothers), but he wants that kind of close relationship - with sex and intimacy included, though. XD He just hasn't found the right

Bucky definitely strikes me as the dedicated, thoughtful kind of guy that would be great for something solid and real, especially after what he's been through. (And let me just say I love this canon point for him, there's a lot of Winter Soldiers out there, but they can be really hard to play off of, given the sheer trauma involved!) I am absolutely looking forward to whatever shenanigans they get into, because I think no matter where it ends up they're going to get along gangbusters.
no subject
So. Many. Shenanigans. (Rhys is gonna get Bucky in trouble, isn't he? Oh well, he's used to having friends who get him in trouble.) But first, Rhys might have to talk Bucky into not moving at the first available opportunity. He really does not like the decor of his room.
Rhys can help him redecorate.>.>I never considered playing Bucky for precisely that reason - so much trauma! Winter Soldier is just hard to play, and play off of, as I've tried that before, too. But then I started writing this guy in Steve's PSL, & had so much fun with him, he just took the damn thing over. He is the best mix of sarcastic, exasperated, unimpressed and charming. I wanted to play him more like this, but the options are kinda limited, to either before the movies, or.... a game like this where I could bring him in from wherever I wanted, timeline-wise.
no subject
And yeah. There's potential for the Winter Soldier, but he would be HARD to get to interact, especially in any kind of slice of life situation. In a focused PSL where he could get the attention and care he needs to function? I could see it. But in a game? Yeah, nightmare. :) I think this is an awesome canon point for him, because I really enjoyed him in TFA and the flashes of him that you do eventually start to see later on in Civil War (without being spoilery. :D )
I also admit that I just love to see happy, well-adjusted characters bouncing around. Every character is entitled to drama and trauma, but it's grindingly exhausting and sometimes, you need a few level heads around! (That's what Rhys was supposed to be, but, well, the City had a different idea for him, alas. >.< But Rhys *mostly* Means well and will be grateful for whatever trouble Bucky helps him out of? :D )

I've seen CA:CW... once, in the theater, and it literally broke my feels. I walked out of there just repeating "...I feel nothing. What is wrong with me?" I should watch it again like I did Avengers 2 (downloaded, with frequent pauses to catch my breath & digest what's happening, lol) but... ugh. The Bucky-snark, though... In the other movies/flashbacks, you don't get such a strong sense that Bucky's kind of a shit-head sometimes, which I love, haha!
I do have some plans for Bucky-drama/angst, involving realizing he's got some form of super soldier serum in him (tongue-twister, gah), plus the whole 'people seem to know a different version of me', but that's mostly gonna be for quiet moments. When someone else is in trouble, ESPECIALLY someone he considers a friend, Bucky is level-headed, no-nonsense, we'll-figure-this-out kinda guy. He doesn't get into trouble.
Except possibly in relationships.>.> But who knows what will happen! I kind of want to read what's going on with everyone in the logs... but I also don't want to be 'spoiled' and possibly color how Bucky reacts to things when he learns about them.no subject
And drama and angst are necessary for character development and to make the fluff more rewarding when you get to it! I have a hard time playing ships without that groundwork, it's just when it becomes an endless black hole of suffering with no relief that it gets to be an issue. :) Every character has their weak points, and other characters help shore those up- that's why it works!
no subject
YES, THIS EXACTLY. I've written PSLs where it's nothing but angst, & I just quickly lost interest, even though we were furthering the plot & characters.
Also part of why I don't like most zombie stuff. It's only a matter of time, people!*Ahem*. But Bucky's still pretty new to me, no matter how much I had to analyze him just for his app, and I know I'm still learning a lot about him - so, we'll see what happens! It's exciting, but kinda terrifying, lol.no subject
But of course, you do have to knock them around some to see what makes them tick, and to make them appreciate their good times. Hopefully this is great for you and Bucky- this is the first time I've really played Rhys in a big, in-depth game and even though he's been in my head for several years now, I'm totally in new waters with him and it's great. :D They don't shine until you rough 'em up a bit, I guess.
