→ Comment with the character you'd like to test drive in the setting, with name and canon in the subject line.
→ Choose a scenario or create your own, and tag around!
→ If you're still tagging in the last TDM, you may continue to do so, or feel free to move your threads here. New test drives are now posted sometime during the months of: March, June, September, December.
→ Threads in the test drive are NOT eligible to use for activity checks, however you can make them game canon if you wish — and only if both players are accepted in the game.
Possible Scenarios
Please note that all characters will initially arrive in their assigned housing; they are free to explore the City to their heart's content after that!01. A New Arrival: Hello, New Person! You seem to have found yourself on a sidewalk in the City of Sin with nothing but the clothes on your back and a stomach churning feeling of being displaced. Thankfully, the streets are full of people - Watch out that you don't get mugged!
02. Demonic Presences: You were just minding your own business, weren't you? But that's always when bad things seem to happen, and the City of Sin isn't really that friendly. Whatever bar or street you're hanging out in suddenly go dim, filling the area with an unnerving feeling as the shadows on the walls jump out into reality. We suggest you phone a friend for help, or maybe try running?
03. Party Hard: You've been invited to a massive, elegant party in the Tower District that spills out its doors in welcome. Obviously, this whole thing is weird and you don't know who your hosts are, but maybe you can get some free drinks and food out of it! This place might not be so bad.
04. Prominence: The City of Sin influences its population on a weekly basis. Too bad you came right smack dab in the middle of a heavy Prominence. Lust, Greed, Gluttony, Envy, Wrath, Sloth, or Pride: choose your sin and be wicked.
05. Trouble: Not everyone is sunshine and roses here. Some people are violent and cruel, raised in the sludge of a sinful city. And they like to pick on people they think can't fight back. Are you that person? Or are you the Hero who can't stand to watch? Worse yet, could you be the person doing the instigating? Villain.
06. Carnival: The City has carnivals or festivals now and then; you're lucky to catch one! With its open booths filled with cork gun games and funnel cakes, how can someone not have any fun! Go win your darling a stuffed animal, or meet someone new on the spinning cup ride. You might even see someone you know being talked into sitting in the Dunk Tank.
07. Network: There's a network device in your pocket - or at least a familiar object that seems to work in mysterious ways. Perhaps you can take to that and ask for a bit of help? Or maybe you'd prefer to have a little fun with all of this. Surely someone will reply.
08. Wild Card:Choose your own adventure in the game's setting!
Arrival
Her heart was heavy and tired of hoping and being disappointed in the Charles Xavier's (she'd lost count how many at this point) that she had to refamiliarise herself with, but the tight breath held in her chest told her that she was going to keep trying, at least this time. Case by case basis, right?
She didn't even have to say anything - a terrible wonderful bonus, but Charles had long taught her the practice of 'throwing' or 'pushing' her thoughts out, despite her not being telepathic herself.
Charles? Is that you?
Devi didn't bother to hide the emotional exhaustion in her mental tone or anything that happened to slip through - She loved Charles in her own way, as a brother of sorts, and she'd missed him but it felt like there was no chance for luck to give enough that this instance would be the one that remembered her and the way things used to be.
Re: Arrival
The question slows him to a stop in the middle of the hallway. Had it been asked aloud, it might be mistaken for simple clarification. But since it was projected and the voice was one he knew, Charles felt the tentative hope for a specific version.
It is also fortunate that Charles was deep in thought as he made his way towards the elevators, left hand up to his face, displaying a band on his wedding finger. As his name sounds in his mind, he turns.
There would be no doubt when he makes eye contact and offers her a small smile that she'll know what version is back in the City. He nods once to confirm.
The City apparently has unfinished business with Charles Xavier-Malfoy, it seems.
He slowly makes his way towards her.
It's good to see you again, Devi.

Her face pinched a little. Can I give you a hug? Devi was not a hugger - that hadn't changed, but Charles Xavier-Malfoy had found himself to be a broad exception. If he said yes, she wouldn't hesitate to throw her arms around him and squeeze him close.
"I'm happy you're back," she started, voice sympathetic to the fact that he was back alone. Silver linings and all. "Are you okay?"
no subject
The question doesn't receive an answer; the timing has Devi easily within arm's length at about the same time as he would. It's the kind of embrace that is meant to be comforting but also seeking comfort in return and when he pulls back, Charles leaves his hands on her upper arms for a moment longer.
"Head is a bit jumbled but otherwise I'm well," he answers, looking her over. "You look.."
As if she had lived 3 lifetimes.
"How long has it been?"
no subject
Devi couldn't help but huff a little half laugh at the way he trailed off. "That bad huh?" She shook her head a little as she tried to mark just how much time had passed. "Almost a year? Few months shy, maybe? A long time it feels like, much longer than that." Even if that wasn't the case.
"Not a lot has changed, except management. You've come in during a bit of a lull." Not that it meant much beyond allowing him to get settled before the world turned over again. "Erik and I married." She.. couldn't remember anymore if he knew, she wasn't sure he was here to catch that after it happened in semi-secret. But Erik was his best friend and she felt like he was owed that. Especially after the doubts that Charles had had. She didn't blame him for them - they were for Erik's wellbeing.
"Did they send you back home?"
no subject
The information was taken in with the news of them getting married earning another small, sad smile. It would be enough to say he wasn't here for it but would have loved to be.
Devi's next question has Charles lapse into thought, clearly trying to piece together what feels like more than a year and yet, there were no new memories that came to mind. He even looks the same as he did before leaving.
"I don't think so," he manages with a shake of his head. Charles looks back up at her. "Devi, I know he's not here. How long after I left before he.."
It hurt to think about how his disappearance affected Draco and in turn, how his disappearance affected her.
no subject
His follow up question made her throat knot behind her next swallow as she looked back at the floor. There was no helping the sudden flash of memories - Draco's brokenheartedness and the stiff upper lip that followed for the few months he was gone too. She almost hadn't gotten married because of it and it still felt like she'd put both of them in the ground.
"About two and a half months. Your house is still there. People still remember you both." They hadn't been lost. Not to the City. "It's been too long. The place and the revolution could use you and your experience. People have questions you're better suited to answer. I'm sorry, Charles."
That he didn't have Draco, that he was here alone, that people still needed him five minutes after he arrived.
