Erik notices him because he sticks out like a sore thumb. Parties aren't really his thing either, but his Magistrate duties require his attendance. He steps over to the man, who seems uncertain as to whether he should even really enter.

"No formal wear. I take it you're new here." He makes a sweeping gesture into the room. "You should take advantage of the food, in that case." He's a pragmatist. "You're still invited. Waste not."
