Having only been there a day short of a week himself, John recognized the look on the other guy's face because it was the expression he had himself that first night after arriving. Of course, he could very well be someone who isn't new and just pissed about something. How would he know?

And perhaps John doesn't look like the best person to badger looking the way he does with the cuts still healing on his face from the run-in back in his world with the sumo wrestler hitman; a pretty lethal combination now that John thinks back on it.

Not planning to offer, there's something about the guy that has John slowing and as they pass each other on the sidewalk, he stops and glances back.

"You lost?"

It's about as good an opener as any. They can each go on their not so merry way if he isn't, after all.
